　　Good morning,everyone! I`m very happy to have this chance to give mypresentation. Before I start my speech, please let me ask you a question. Do youthink you are confident in yourself? If you are, do please raise your hand.

　　My topic today is “ to Be a Confident Person.”

　　What is confidence? Confidence is to trust yourself. Confidence is to lookupon yourself. It is not to indulge in self-admiration. It is not to getextremely arrogant. It is not to get dizzy with success or to be opinionated. Itis just to inspire yourself ahead of a quality of mind, in high spirit, full ofenergy. It is to meet the challenges of life in a positive mood. It is toovercome your inferiority, farewell, to get rid of the trouble of a a ready-madepanacea.

　　Nothing succeeds like confidence.When you are truly confident,it radiatesfrom you like sunlight,and attracts success to you like a magnet.

　　It's important to believe in yourself.Believe that you can do it under anycircumstances,because if you believe you can,then you really will.The beliefkeeps you searching for answers,which means that pretty soon you will getthem.

　　Confidence is more than an attitude. It comes from knowing exactly whereyou are going and exactly how you are going to get there. It comes from actingwith integrity and confidence.It comes from a strong sense of purpose.It comesfrom a strong commitment to take responsibility,rather than just letting lifehappen.

　　One way to develop self-confidence is to do the thing you fear and to get arecord of successful experiences behind you.

　　Confidence is compassionate and understanding.It is not arrogant. Arroganceis born out of fear and insecurity,while confidence comes from strength andintegrity.

　　Confidence is not just believing you can do it. Confidence is knowing youcan do it.Know that you are capable of accomplish anything you want,and liveyour life with confidence.

　　Anything can be achieved through focused,determined effort andself-confidence.If your life is not what you want it to be,you have the power tochange it,and you must make the changes on a moment by moment basis. Live yourpriorities. Live with your goals and your plan of action. Live each moment withyour priorities in mind. Act with your own purpose,and you will have the lifeyou

　　Remember, I have just entered junior high school. In the face of thechallenge of new environment, in the face of so many new courses and learningcontents, I lost faith in my own and gradually developed a psychological senseof inferiority. 　　Many people yearn to be more self-confident. Yet they have no idea how toachieve that objective. They look at others who have the gift and say, “Heythat’s what I want. I hate feeling unsure of myself. I wish I could stopobsessing about what others think of me and quit worrying about disappointingother people. I want to stop anguishing over my decisions and torturing myselfabout my mistakes. I think it would be so great to feel self-assured, hold myhead up high and stand tall. I’ve never been self-confident. I wish there were away I could be.”

　　There is a way. You don’t have to be born with self-confidence.Self-confidence can grow and flourish and ripen and blossom until you actuallycome to feel as though there is a different person inside of you. Here are someinsights that might facilitate the quest.

　　Learn what a self-confident person is really like. They are not cocky,know-it-all people who don’t care what anybody else thinks. They have theirdoubts. And make mistakes. And are far from perfect. However, they are willingto acknowledge their inadequacies without dwelling on them. They do this bymaintaining a sense of humor, putting problems in perspective, and focusingmainly on what they’ve done right, not wrong.

　　Though self-confident people do believe in themselves, they don’t try tosuffocate others with their ideas or beliefs. They are confident in what theyknow not only because they read, learn and think but also because they respecttheir instinct, intuition and the unique body of knowledge that they’vedeveloped by living life. They realize that one doesn't have to be labeled an“expert” to believe in one's own truths.

　　Self-confident people don’t undermine their own worth by comparingthemselves with others, only to conclude that they aren’t “good enough”. Theyappreciate their strengths and accomplishments and can acknowledge, withoutembarrassment, their weaknesses. They don’t live in the “victim” position. Evenif something really bad has occurred, they turn it into a challenge, rememberingto be grateful for the little things in life.

　　Self-confident people let the world know who they are. If they wantsomething badly enough, they know they have every right to “go for it.” Yet,they also know that the path will rarely be easy. Mistakes, blunders andfailures are part of the learning process. They seek to learn from theirmistakes and do not waste time torturing themselves over what “could havebeen”.

　　Self-confident people are not obstinate people. If they have an idea aboutsomething and it differs from the way another person is thinking about it, theywill usually try to look at it from that person’s point of view, see why itmakes sense to them. Yet, a confident person’s sense of self is grounded. Itdoes not blow in the wind. Their ideas do not fluctuate based on what othersdeem are important.

　　I hope these insights are helpful to you. If so, perhaps one day you willbe able to say what the actress Phyllis Rashad once said, simply but eloquently,” I am just myself and who I am is a lot.”

　　I received a devastating blow to my self-confidence in the first interviewof my college years. I applied to be a host in our Student Acting Troupe andfelt confident that I would be accepted. But one of the panel members told me:"You seem inadequate and you are a little vertically-challenged." My life hasnever been the same since. I used bigger heels to complement my height andpsychological maneuvers and tricks to hide my lack of confidence. But no matterhow hard I tried to look the part, there was still something missing.

It had to be someone who was humorous by nature and fluent in English.Suddenly, all eyes turned to me, and I knew I would have to be the dwarf. 　　Given a choice, I would rather be ugly than live in such a world. I'drather be a genuine dwarf accompanying a Snow White than be a Snow White amongnothing but Snow Whites. I would rather be myself.
