Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I’m Angela zhang from class 4 grade 8. Today, my topic is, “The Shanghai world Expo”.

First, I’ll say something about world Expo History. As we know, the very first world Expo, the great Exhibition of 1851, took place in the crystal Palace in London. UK. Ever since then, the goals of world Expos have been both high-minded as well as commercial. Visitors are able to explore the world outside of their everyday experience—outside cultures, new scientific advancements, and new inventions. world Expos have excited and inspired more and more people in the world. On december3, 20xx, the Bureau of International Expositions (or call it BIE) announced that Shanghai will host Expo20xx. the BIE had received bids from five cities to host Expo20xx. Among the 5 nice cities, the BIE chose Shanghai at last! It’s really an exciting news for not only Shanghainese, but also all of chinese people. Here are some details about it.

Look at this profile carefully. The title is “The 20xx world Exposition ,Shanghai, china ”. this is the logo.

And the theme is “better city., better life”.oK, let’s guess who is the image representative? Yeah, you’re right, Yao ming!Shanghai Expo is the first comprehensive world Expo held in a developing country. And it is also the first one that takes “the city” as its theme, hoping that it can push forward the city development and help bring about a better urban living environment, just like the theme: better city, better life.

I think, as a student in Shanghai, we should learn to be a gentle person and keep good manners from now on. And try to practice English more in order to communicate with foreigners fluently in the near future. Because, we’re a part of Shanghai!

Mr. Chairman, Senator Thurmond, members of the committee, my name is Anita F. Hill, and I am a professor of law at the University of Oklahoma. I was born on a farm in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, in 1956. I am the youngest of 13 children. I had my early education in Okmulgee County. My father, Albert Hill, is a farmer in that area. My mother's name is Irma Hill. She is also a farmer and a housewife.

My childhood was one of a lot of hard work and not much money, but it was one of solid family affection, as represented by my parents. I was reared in a religious atmosphere in the Baptist faith, and I have been a member of the Antioch Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, since 1983. It is a very warm part of my life at the present time.

For my undergraduate work, I went to Oklahoma State University and graduated from there in 1977. I am attaching to this statement a copy of my resume for further details of my education.

I graduated from the university with academic honors and proceeded to the Yale Law School, where I received my JD degree in 1980. Upon graduation from law school, I became a practicing lawyer with the Washington, DC, firm of Ward, Hardraker, and Ross.

In 1981, I was introduced to now Judge Thomas by a mutual friend. Judge Thomas told me that he was anticipating a political appointment, and he asked if I would be interested in working with him. He was, in fact, appointed as Assistant Secretary of Education for Civil Rights. After he had taken that post, he asked if I would become his assistant, and I accepted that position.

In my early period there, I had two major projects. The first was an article I wrote for Judge Thomas' signature on the education of minority students. The second was the organization of a seminar on high-risk students which was abandoned because Judge Thomas transferred to the EEOC where he became the chairman of that office.

During this period at the Department of Education, my working relationship with Judge Thomas was positive. I had a good deal of responsibility and independence. I thought he respected my work and that he trusted my judgment. After approximately three months of working there, he asked me to go out socially with him.

What happened next and telling the world about it are the two most difficult things -- experiences of my life. It is only after a great deal of agonizing consideration and sleepless number -- a great number of sleepless nights that I am able to talk of these unpleasant matters to anyone but my close friends.

I declined the invitation to go out socially with him and explained to him that I thought it would jeopardize what at the time I considered to be a very good working relationship. I had a normal social life with other men outside of the office. I believed then, as now, that having a social relationship with a person who was supervising my work would be ill-advised. I was very uncomfortable with the idea and told him so.

I thought that by saying no and explaining my reasons my employer would abandon his social suggestions. However, to my regret, in the following few weeks, he continued to ask me out on several occasions. He pressed me to justify my reasons for saying no to him. These incidents took place in his office or mine. They were in the form of private conversations which would not have been overheard by anyone else.

My working relationship became even more strained when Judge Thomas began to use work situations to discuss sex. On these occasions, he would call me into his office for reports on education issues and projects, or he might suggest that, because of the time pressures of his schedule, we go to lunch to a government cafeteria. After a brief discussion of work, he would turn the conversation to a discussion of sexual matters.

His conversations were very vivid. He spoke about acts that he had seen in pornographic films involving such matters as women having sex with animals and films showing group sex or rape scenes. He talked about pornographic materials depicting individuals with large penises or large breasts involved in various sex acts. On several occasions, Thomas told me graphically of his own sexual prowess.

Because I was extremely uncomfortable talking about sex with him at all and particularly in such a graphic way, I told him that I did not want to talk about these subjects. I would also try to change the subject to education matters or to nonsexual personal matters such as his background or his beliefs. My efforts to change the subject were rarely successful.

Throughout the period of these conversations, he also from time to time asked me for social engagements. My reaction to these conversations was to avoid them by eliminating opportunities for us to engage in extended conversations. This was difficult because at the time I was his only assistant at the Office of Education -- or Office for Civil Rights.

During the latter part of my time at the Department of Education, the social pressures and any conversation of his offensive behavior ended. I began both to believe and hope that our working relationship could be a proper, cordial, and professional one.

When Judge Thomas was made chair of the EEOC, I needed to face the question of whether to go with him. I was asked to do so, and I did. The work itself was interesting, and at that time it appeared that the sexual overtures which had so troubled me had ended. I also faced the realistic fact that I had no alternative job. While I might have gone back to private practice, perhaps in my old firm or at another, I was dedicated to civil rights work, and my first choice was to be in that field. Moreover, the Department of Education itself was a dubious venture. President Reagan was seeking to abolish the entire department.

For my first months at the EEOC, where I continued to be an assistant to Judge Thomas, there were no sexual conversations or overtures. However, during the fall and winter of 1982, these began again. The comments were random and ranged from pressing me about why I didn't go out with him to remarks about my personal appearance. I remember his saying that some day I would have to tell him the real reason that I wouldn't go out with him.

Perhaps, long process makes us feel tired, but we should have enough patience, after all we have in society the VAT struggled for so long. Think about the past, we tried many kinds of excruciating humiliation, encountered many times cheating heart ached and embarrassment of discrimination, to break the how many times an injustice and despair of difficulties and setbacks, how many liters of hot tears shed, spent much of her door to the state of mind, how much tired out body self... Some in the past cannot be calculated, but in with wan "fear statutes are the most happy" truth, we pay too much too much, thus forging a strong heart.

"People say heaven is good, the fairy music. Behind the success of tears? The fairy people did, uniting the spares no pains. In practise, fruit to fix it was." With the fruits of their labor for, will always be sweet; To fly on his own life, is always bright.

Someday, we will find the ideal of life, to find a truly belong to our own sky. But before that, please shout loudly in the big time: I want to fly higher.

There are many popular singers in the world. However, Michael Jackson is my favorite one. He died when he was only fifty years old .I like his songs very much. He is so talented that people call him the king of pop. He could sing good songs and dance wonderfully. What's more, he is a kind-hearted man. He helped many poor children in the world. It is known to all he donated his money to the charity.

I respect and love him very much . In a word, he was not only a famous artist but also a great man in the world.I will learn from him and be a great person like him in the future.

As food is to the body, so is learning to the mind. Our bodies grow and muscles develop with the intake of adequate nutritious food. Likewise, we should keep learning day by day to maintain our keen mental power and expand our intellectual capacity.

Constant learning supplies us with inexhaustible fuel for driving us to sharpen our power of reasoning, analysis, and judgment. Learning incessantly is the surest way to keep pace with the times in the information age, and an infallible warrant of success in times of uncertainty.

Once learning stops, vegetation sets in. It is a common fallacy to regard school as the only workshop for the acquisition of knowledge. On the contrary, learning should be a never-ending process, from the cradle to the grave. With the world ever changing so fast, the cease from learning for just a few days will make a person lag behind. What's worse, the animalistic instinct dormant deep in our subconsciousness will come to life, weakening our will to pursue our noble ideal, sapping our determination to sweep away obstacles to our success and strangling our desire for the refinement of our character.

Lack of learning will inevitably lead to the stagnation of the mind, or even worse, its fossilization, Therefore, to stay mentally young, we have to take learning as a lifelong career.

aword that has changed the world

  courage

first i'd like to tell you one thing happened before i stood here. after i signed up for this speech contest, i heard that those who are frigging awesome in our school all participated in this contest and they said they do it just for fun. maybe they don't know their fame is out, but this scared me there was a moment i want to quit a stupid thought. but the most important is, now i'm here, because of courage.

write a letter to your dream girl or boy and declare your heart. that is courage.

say no to your teacher in his class when you have a different pinion. that is courage.

after failing several times in the cet-4 exam, who still hands in the entry fee resolutely, that is courage.

in a word, courage is: a man does what he must in spite of personal consequence, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures.

  courage means opportunity.

these days, many people are talking about the death of steve jobs, especially the iphone kly speaking, i admire him for pulling all of his energy and property into his dream of establishing a computer company to which all the friends hold positive attitude. maybe before a person get succeed, he is more than brave, it’s stubborn in others’ eyes.

it's said that "the people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for circumstances they want, and if they cannot find them make them.” his courage creates the opportunity, that's why he captured the market vacancy.

courage means insistence. here i want to talk a famous entrepreneur with you, ma yun the ceo of corporation. we all know , it's just one of its subsidiaries. he is not a genius, and doesn't have a excellent background, actually he is a little be dull. he said "i am born with a little head so can't handle two things at the same time ,if you give me 3 ,it seems to kill me ." he even don't get a decentdegree. what dive him to success? insistence and courage.

there are so many successful people in the world, not because he does better than you, but simply because he dares to .

courage means hope. all of us still remember what happened on 12th may ioned the earthquake in wen chuan, now what came into your mind? grieve, disastrous destruction, sympathy? no, as one who experienced the earthquake, i want to say, it’s e lot of people will go with out their lover or their families in the rest life time, maybe the sunflowers in the yard which bloom every summer will never been seen again ,it doesn't matter ,what matters is new houses and towns were built up on the ruins after several years ,what matters is we can still hear the sounds from the class room window as one falls another rises.

what matters is when passing by neighbour's house after work, we still can smell food cooking in the kitchen. because of courage, there is hope, although earthquake is terrible, we can make a brilliant future.

courage, a meaningful word, it brings opportunity, give insistence, lead to the beautiful future, courage changes the world slowly and quietly. can you feel it?

  a little princess

a little princess is a touching novel written by frances hodgson burnett—a famous novelist and dramatist. the book can bring me into a world that is more than reality while reading it.

the extraordinary story gives me a deep impression that every girl can be a princess. in my opinion, it is impossible for every rich girl to act like a well-behaved princess, but sara, the heroine of the novel, did it! she was an imaginative little girl who had such intelligent small face and such perfect manners. sara was a very nice girl who had a gentle, appreciative ways of saying, such as “if you please” “thank you”. so, not only her teachers and classmates liked her, but also her servants liked her.

there was a time when sara became a poor and pitiful servant insulted by the headmaster of the school. in spite of this, she had never complained to anyone about the horrible suffering she had endured. sara was confident, brave, optimistic and kind-hearted just like before and she had never given up her enthusiasm of life. no matter when, sara acted like a princess, she had accomplished a great deal of miracles over and over again.

after reading this outstanding book, i was shocked by sara, a little girl who suffered such unimaginable pain, but still had an opposit attitude towards life. what impresses me most is that sara

put on her act of being a princess when she wore thin bottom shoes, wading in the street of london.

the way for a girl to be a princess is quite simple. if you want to become a princess, you can suppose yourself to be a princess without caring how the others would treat you. then you should be more kind and try your best to help the people in need. if you du likewise ,you will be a princess someday.

Just read a report, a 19-year-old girl how clever, because of the exam hadno confidence a bit, although the test scores more than 7 points, colleges anduniversities to admit a line in the result under the single day take pills onhimself. This may be stressful. What a pity it is! She is not mature enough toknow the consequences of such a test. She does not know the consequences of herparents' love for her, or the influence of her parents' loss.

Adversity makes a man. Can suffer, can exercise a person. Hunger and thirstfor water, the value of a bowl of rice; Poverty and hardship, cold faces, hardships and setbacks can shape your character. On the way of learning, I feelthis way, when you feel learning is inferior to others, you will loseconfidence, or even give chance to others, when we want to know, opportunity isnot literally let to let go, is their fighting for. The hardship of life andstudy is such a torment, "the earth" always makes fun of it. We take the hardexperience and the growing season, record it! At the same time, it is possibleto find out the reasons for the hardship. Maybe there is no self-confidence, butthe people who lose their self-confidence can come back again. Yes, yes, likethe 19-year-old girl, she could have finished her studies, but she lost herself-confidence.

Let us remember the bitter lesson! I hope everyone has self-confidence.Believing in yourself is the end of success.

  This is an interesting place.

You come here to exchange things, you come here to save money, and you come here to give your waste things a home.

What is it? Not the supermarket, not the dustbin, not the place that is dealing with rubbish of course, but it is a place on our campus.Yes, it is the flea market.

I have already sold my books and bags that I no longer need there, and have bought a lovely bottle there at a good price.

I will show you four benefits by doing this according to my experience, but before that,I have to tell you that you should keep an open mind when going there.

You may not come away with the things that were on your list, but thats the beauty of the hunt: you never know what youll find.

If you didnt find a particular item this week, dont despair ,since youll have chance to find it next time.

Now I will show you the four reasons that may help you to find a new way to deal with your waste things next time.Firstly, save money.

By selling the things you no longer needs, you can cover some of the original cost which can be of great importance to those students who have not got their own income.

And with the similar function and a much lower price, the financial difficulty that troubled many poor students can be solved much more easily.

What’s more, experts estimated that if all textbooks in universities can be used once again, we can save about 100 million Yuan which can help you to travel to moon for one time.Secondly, develop a good habit.

Selling the waste things in a flea market can help the sellers to cultivate a good habit of making full use of their belongings.

Thus you will think twice before buying a new product next time.Thirdly, foster an intelligence to engage in business.

You can learn to communicate with others and promote sale of your products to others at a proper price by doing this.

Your practical ability can also improve a lot.Don’t forget the last one, environmental-friendly.

According to the latest report, if a small-size city reuses the textbooks for one time, they can save 1.5 million in only a semester’s time.Anyway, a flea market is an interesting place to visit if you want to buy something or if you want to buy nothing.

Dont be surprised if you find the very thing you have been looking for or come back home with your hands empty.Hope the fact I have presented to you will help you to make a wise choice next time when dealing with your waste things.

Remember: many a little makes a fickle

  Dstinguished judges, teachers, dear friends:

Hello, everyone! My name is cheng _iang yan , I am a junior student come from life science institution .Today, I am very glad to stand here and share with you my most sincere speech‘Flying youth, master our future!’

Life is a process of growing up. Saying goodbye to childhood, we step into another important time of life in the pace of young, facing new situations, dealing with different problems.....

However, who can really say what the youth is ? A period of time? A belief? An attitude to life? Or anything else? actually, everyone has his ownunderstanding of young, it is a period of time of beauty and wonders, only after you have e_perienced the sour , sweet ,bitter and salty, can you really become a person of significance.

Just like A famous poet said ‘ youth is a lovely song ,where nothing is impossible ,youth is a meaningful book, you’ll be never bored of it ;youth is a rapid river ,it keeps on flowing day and night ;youth is a cup of tea ,it shows you different kinds of tastes in your life.

As youth is so precious, of course, we must treasure it .Don’t let the limited time pass by, grasping the young will means a better time is waiting for you in the near future.

So,It’s necessary for us to prepare ourselves well for the future to come. having a view on those great men in the history of hunman being, they all made full use of their youth time to do things that are useful to society, to the whole mankind, and as a consequence ,they are remembered by later generations, admired by everyone. so do something in the time of young, although you may not get achievements as these greatmen did ,though not for the whole world, just for youeself, for those around! So, what should we do when we are young? Here,I’ll point out some tips to help equip ourselves.

First of all, think of what you’d like to be some day. A teacher ? A doctor ? A writer? Don’t afraid of dreaming of big and great .Since you are young , you can dream of doing anything and becoming anyone in the future. What’s more , never ignore the power of knowledge. Read more books and travel around. For one thing, it can increase your knowledge, for another, it’ll broaden your horizon.

Last but not the least , stick to your dream. It easier said than done. After all, future is not all roses. young is just like blooming flowers, they are so beautiful when blooming, which make people feel happy, but with time passing by, after they withers ,most people think they are ugly. and so it is the same with young, we are enthusiastic when we are young, then we may lose our passion when getting older and older. So we should have enough courage and determination to overcome all the difficulties in struggling on the road.

I firmly believe one sentence that‘If you think you can, of course you can!’Just believe we can make it! Keep on walking towards our dream. Flying youth , master our future. From today, from now on , are you Ready ? That’s all. Thank you so much for your attention !

Smoking is a greater cause of death and disability than any single disease, says the World Health Organisation. According to their figures, it is responsible for approximately five million deaths worldwide every year. Tobacco smoking is a known or probable cause of approximately 25 diseases, and even the WHO says that its impact on world health is not fully assessed.

Heart attack and stroke UK studies show that smokers in their 30s and 40s are five times more likely to have a heart attack than non-smokers. Tobacco contributes to the hardening of the arteries, which can then become blocked and starve the heart of bloodflow, causing the attack. Often, smokers who develop this will require complex and risky heart bypass surgery. If you smoke for a lifetime, there is a 50% chance that your eventual death will be smoking-related - half of all these deaths will be in middle age. Smoking also increases the risk of having a stroke. Lung problems Another primary health risk associated with smoking are lung cancer, which kills more than 20,000 people in the UK every year. US studies have shown that men who smoke increase their chances of dying from the disease by more than 22 times. Women who smoke increase this risk by nearly 12 times. Lung cancer is a difficult cancer to treat - long term survival rates are poor.

Smoking also increases the risk of oral, uterine, liver, kidney, bladder, stomach, and cervical cancers, and leukaemia. Another health problem associated with tobacco is emphysema, which, when combined with chronic bronchitis, produces chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The lung damage which causes emphysema is irreversible, and makes it extremely difficult to breathe. Harm to children Smoking in pregnancy greatly increases the risk of miscarriage, is associated with lower birthweight babies, and inhibited child development. Smoking by parents following the birth is linked to sudden infant death syndrome, or cot death, and higher rates of infant respiratory illness, such as bronchitis, colds, and pneumonia.

Nicotine, an ingredient of tobacco, is listed as an addictive substance by the US authorities. Although the health risks of smoking are culmulative, giving up can yield health benefits regardless of the age of the patient, or the length of time they have been smoking.

Future impact By 20xx, the WHO expects the worldwide death toll to reach 10 million, causing 17.7% of all deaths in developed countries. There are believed to be 1.1 billion smokers in the world, 800 million of them in developing countries.

today smoking is a widespread habit ali over the world. not only the old, the youth, but also middle school students have been engaged in smoking. many of them think that smoking is a smart symbol.

however, smoking is harmful to one’s ,health. it contributes a lot of lung cancer, from which many people have died in the past years. it can also cause many other diseases.

in a word, if you smoke, you do have a much greater chance of losing your health. furthermore, scientific research shows that smoking is not only harmful to smokers themselves, but also a threat to public health, especially to women and children. therefore, many countries have made laws forbidding smokers to smoke m public places such as cinemas, stations, hospitals, and so on giveup smoking! if you don’t smoke, don’t start. give upsmoking for the sake of your health, for the sake of your family, and for the sake of the whole world.

英语的演讲稿15

Good morning/afternoon, ladies and gentlemen.

consider the lowly toilet. Many of you may not think of the toilet as a form of technology if you think of toilets at all. But, it is and has contributed greatly to the improved health and overall quality of life for mankind.

On a recent trip to Japan, I was impressed by, among other things, a gadget in most public women's restrooms, called Otohime or Sound Princess. This device produces the sound of flushing water without the need for actual flushing. The technology saves the user both the embarrassment of being heard during urination and some 20 liters of water per use in cases where a woman might flush the toilet continuously while using it. Every time I used Otohime, I felt like a princess, an environmentalist princess on the toilet.

It was a longed for feeling. Over the past decade, I shuffled in and out of many kinds of public restrooms in China--filthy smelly water closets in outlying areas, spacious luxurious lavatories in five-star hotels, forever-occupied girls' stalls on campus during school, and smart modern mobile toilets in international fairs. But not one single "room" evoked my pride of being a princess. And I knew why the Sound Princess had. It was not because of the high technology the small bathroom boasted which is becoming ubiquitous worldwide. It was the idealism embodied in the technology that keeps reminding me that in this ever-changing world, I am a responsible and dignified human being even when sitting on a toilet.

Humanism, no matter how it is defined, aims to strike a balance between us being at the mercy of nature and being too human-centered. In my case, I haven't relieved myself under a tree for a while. I am a proud, dutiful Chinese citizen. Gone are the days when people just found a corner to do their business resulting in poor sanitation and threats to public health. The Otohimetechnology renders me two warnings: First, I am a humble human being with an obligation to save not only my face but also natural resources. Second, there is still a long way to go in my own country not just in developing technology and the economy, but also in upholding human dignity and promoting human welfare. Take the toilet: Dirty, crowdedtoilets shall, at least, give way to clean, human-friendly ones.

fortunately, I have seen improvements. At Shanghai World Expo 20xx, 8,000 toilets, all modern and technologically sophisticated, were installed across the site. What really delighted the visitors, however, was the user-friendly design and services. Toilets were situated every 100 meters. Several hundred volunteers served as toilet guides and sanitation workers. The ratio of female to male toilet space was set at 2.5 to 1. Soft music was played in the toilets. All this seems to celebrate the glory of comprehensive humanism.

Ladies and gentlemen, science and technology are here to improve earthly life and maximize human happiness. When our world benefits from technology, coupled with human considerations, we are bound to enjoy our life. Conversely, we suffer. The toilet is a piece of sanitaryware and the quintessence of humanism that underlies technological innovation. Like GNP, employment rates, and space exploration efforts, the lowly equipment is an equally important measure of a progressive society. When on a toilet if we feel like a princess, we shall be proud of living in a society that values humanity. If not, we must stand up and make some changes.

And if you are still baffled with what I have said, I suggest you take off right now and go experience the bathrooms in this auditorium, because they are what makes our life beautiful or ugly, humanism considered or ignored.
