　　boat, ship, canoe, steamer, vessel, craft

　　这些名词均含有“船”之意。

　　1.boat : 泛指任何大小的船只，尤指靠划桨或风帆行进的无篷小船。

　　A boat is on the water.一艘船浮在水面。

　　2.ship : 含义广，一般指大轮船，如航海船只，内河航运船只。

　　A ship sank at the junction of the two rivers last month.上个月一条船在两条河的交汇点沉了。

　　3.canoe : 指长而轻，用桨的小舟、独木船。

　　They slid the canoe down to the water.他们使小舟滑到水中。

　　4.steamer : 指靠蒸汽发动机为动力的船只。

　　He put her aboard a steamer bind for New York.他把她送上了一艘驶向纽约的汽船。

　　5.vessel : 多指运货或运人的大船。

　　We had sighted the vessel and were following it.我们已看到那船并在跟随着它。

　　6.craft : 船只的集合名词，但可指单独的船只。

　　The harbour was full of pleasure craft.港口满是游艇

　　depart, leave, go, start, quit, set out

　　depart : 较正式用词，指经过周密考虑或郑重地离开，强调离开的起点。

　　The train departs at 7:30.

　　leave : 侧重出发地而不是目的地。

　　Were giving him a party when he leaves.

　　go : 一般用词，指从所在地到其它地方去，着重目的地而非出发地。

　　She has gone to the station.

　　start : 可与leave换用，强调目的地，但不及leave普通。

　　They started their journey home.

　　quit : 侧重指离开令人烦恼的地方，或摆脱使人不快的人或事。

　　If I dont get a pay rise Ill quit.

　　set out : 书面用词。

　　A visitor arrived just as we were setting out for the airport.

　　condition, state, status, situation, circumstance

　　这些名词均有“状况、情况”之意。

　　condition : 一般强调产生影响的原因或环境，复数形式指笼统的情况。

　　We must better our financial condition.(我们必须改善我们的财政状况。)

　　state : 普通用词，指人或物在环境、外表、心灵以及健康方面的状况，或指在某一阶段的状态或形式。

　　Air whether in the gaseous or liquid state is a fluid.(空气，无论是气态的或是液态的，都是一种流体。)

　　status : 指一个人在政治、社会、经济、法律上的地位或身份，暗含地位显要意味。也可用于指政治等事态的状况。

　　Age has status in the villages.(在乡村里年长者受人尊敬。)

　　situation : 指明确具体的环境情况或处境。

　　The economic situation has changed considerably.(经济形势已发生了相当大的变化。)

　　circumstance : 多指周围的情况或某事发生时的情况。

　　You should act according to circumstances.(你要随机应变。)
